Abbie awakens in a daze with no memory of how she ended up in this condition. The man by her side claims he is her husband, and that she is an artist. He tells her she is the perfect mother, and the perfect wife. He says she had a terrible accident 5 years ago, and that she has been brought back due to a huge technological breakthrough. She is a miracle of science. But as Abbie learns more about her marriage she begins to question her husband’s motives- and his version of events. What really happened to Abbie 5 years ago?
I finished this book yesterday evening but I honestly couldn’t write a review immediately as I was still making up my mind about how I felt. The whole story was so odd for me, I never ever read books of this nature and I honestly wasn’t expecting the storyline to be what it was. When I saw Abbie had been brought back due to scientific developments I thought it was some surgery she had gotten😂 I was honestly shocked when they said she’d been brought back as a robot 😂 I immediately thought this book is going to not be my cup of tea. To be fair, I did enjoy the storyline. I was curious to find out what happened to Abbie and I enjoyed the fact the story told us of the development of her relationship with her husband. I could see where the story was going in relation to Abbie’s marriage, but I thought that was written and told well. The ending is something which I do have an issue with. I was left a little bit confused and I felt there could have been more of an explanation about what had gone on. Maybe I was just being thick but I had to read the second last chapter more than once to make sense of what they were saying had occurred. I still think the Girl Before is Delaney’s best book and the ones I’ve read after that just haven’t come close. Overall, I wouldn’t be raving about this book, if you like Delaney I’d say maybe give it a go but I wouldn’t be placing it top of a TBR pile 🤷🏼♀️
