– I WAS TOLD IT WOULD GET EASIER by Abbi Waxman
Genre: Women’s Fiction
When single mom Jessica and her 16 year old daughter, Emily, embark on a whirlwind and unforgettable college tour road trip, they learn about something much more important than the campuses: each other! “It’s just as well parents get a decade of cute and cuddly children before they turn into teenagers, otherwise humans wold have died out long ago.” My son and I are a year out from this college visit phase (he’s selected a college and is heading there in just two months—sob!), and I found much of this story SPOT ON. I loved that it included perspectives of both the mother and the teen daughter. The story was fun and entertaining; it made me laugh, and one pivotal scene even brought tears to my eyes. If you are the mother of a teenager, then this is a must read, both for the entertainment value and to know that you are not alone in the daunting process of selecting a college!
