In seven days, Maggie’s son, Max, turns three. But she’s not planning a party or buying presents or updating his baby book. She’s dreading it. Because in her world, third birthdays are the days on which the unthinkable happens… she loses her child.
For the last twelve years Maggie has been imprisoned in a basement. Abducted aged fifteen, she gave birth to two sons before Max, and on their third birthdays her captor came and took them from her. She cannot let it happen again. But she has no idea how to stop it. And the clock is ticking…
Wow I absolutely loved this book! From the beginning it just draws you completely in. The story is super addictive and it is one of them books where you can’t stop reading it. It’s 400 pages long and I read it in less than one day, which shows how excellent it was! The story is a thriller but there isn’t a mystery to it as such- the point of the story isn’t who kidnapped her it’s more about the impact of the kidnapping on Maggie’s family and, of course, Maggie’s life over the past 12 years. My only issue was that because the story was told in both the present time and the past, sometimes something would be mentioned that happened in the past in one of the present chapters and it would be repeated in a later chapter set in the past, which made it slightly repetitive. However, everything else was great and I would highly recommend this book!
