On the seventh day of Christmas…. I’ve got a brand new review!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heather’s mother was murdered 25 years ago. It has never been solved. Now Heather, a lawyer, has returned to her hometown to represent a nanny accused of killing a child in her care. As Heather digs deeper into the case, her own past and her mother’s death begin to surface. Will Heather discover the truth?
I thought that this book would have been better if it had focused more on the trial rather than Heather. Personally, I felt that the murder trial was largely put into the background, when the blurb suggested it would be the main story. When the trial was ongoing, there were only a couple of pages here and there dedicated to what was happening in the court, we only saw little snippets of witness testimony or other evidence. In saying that, I did enjoy the book. It took me a while to read because it is quite a heavy read, it’s not something which I found could be devoured in a short time. There were also a lot of characters and different points of view to consider, and I found that I had to take time to remember who was who, and what connection they had to the storyline. I probably would have read it faster, however, if I hadn’t been doing exams. The ending is slightly predictable and I was hoping for more of a twist. Overall, the book wasn’t the best I’ve read, but far from the worst and it had a good story which was told well.
